Asana & Pathology & Conditions of the Axial Skeleton
This workshop will explain and explore yoga therapy options for multiple musculoskeletal conditions of the axial skeleton. Common conditions we see as teachers include Disc Herniations and Bulges, Sciatica, Stenosis, Radiculopathy, Spondylolisthesis and Kyphosis and Lordosis. The weekend will explain the anatomy of the conditions, discuss the movement indications and contraindications of each condition and explore yoga asanas suitable for safe practice. Students will leave with a comprehensive understanding and asana recommendations for how to approach each condition.
Disc herniations and bulges: Disc herniations and bulges differ in severity but share overlapping pathologies. We will discuss the anatomy of the spine and nerves and students will learn and practice yoga appropriate for vulnerable discs.
The pathologies and symptoms of Sciatica, Radiculopathy, Stenosis and Spondylolisthesis will be discussed and students will learn how to work with each condition.
Kyphosis and Lordosis are exaggerations of our natural spinal curves yet cause postural misalignment and often chronic back and neck pain. We will discus yoga strategies and asanas to lengthen and strengthen specific muscles affected by these postural issues.
The last portion of Sunday will include a review from the teachers of the first module and simple student presentations to help assimilate the material they have been learning.
